Who is this support group for?
People who have Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI)/Premature Ovarian Failure (POF). This includes people currently in the process of being diagnosed, people who have recently been diagnosed, and people who have been diagnosed for years.
What this group is:
This peer online POI support group is a safe place to share your story and your struggles about POI and listen to others as they share similar concerns. A POI diagnosis often feels very isolating so this group’s purpose is to help build a sense of community around a shared experience.
What this group isn’t:
This group is not medical advice. Please always consult with a medical professional to assess your individual situation.
This group is not counselling/therapy. While this group can be very helpful, emotions about POI can be very complex and talking with a trained mental health professional is always advised.
Who runs this group?
Hi, I’m Emma and I created this group was because I was feeling really alone and depressed in my new POI diagnosis. I didn’t know anyone in my day to day life who had POI. I was complaining to my therapist that I couldn’t find an active POI support group, and she said to me very matter-of-factly, “well why don’t you create the group you are envisioning?” I followed her advice and here we are.
So I’m not an expert in POI or in running support groups, I’m just an individual stepping up as an organizer because I felt there was a need.
From everything that I’ve read and experienced, getting a diagnosis of premature ovarian insufficiency can be devastating and shocking. So the aim of this group is to make people with POI feel less alone. I hope we can create a sense of community with this group.
How often are there meetings?
Generally once a month. Note: all meetings are scheduled in Pacific Time, but people from all over the world are welcome to join!
